The bridge is an architectural monument of local significance "Bridge over Riju brook", included in the territory of the architectural monument of national significance Skaistkalne Manor and is a part of it. The bridge was built in the end of 19th century – beginning of 20th century.

Within the framework of the project, a station "Bolderāja 2" with nine tracks of about 8.5 kilometers in length and a connecting track to Krievu sala terminals with ten meter high railway overpass over Daugavgrīva highway, SIA "Latvijas propāna gāze" access road, as well as a bridge over Beķera ditch were built.

The structure of the overpass is an arc. The span of the reinforced concrete arch is 56 m and the span is 7.325 m (f/l = 1/7.645), which is considered to be a relatively slender structure for this type of structure.

The Vidzeme Highway near Melturi crosses the valley of Latvia's fastest river, the Amata. The previous bridge was built and in operation since 1953. This project was designed by “Sojuzdorprojekt” Belarus in Minsk.

The idea of building a road to cross the ravine was conceived in the 1950s and 1960s, when a small-radius (70-250 m) road with a very steep rise and fall (5-6%) profile was traced around a mill near Lorupe.
